Thunder Game Jersey 

  • Game Jersey's need to be returned at the end of the season (U11-U19 Competitive teams)

Thunder Game Shirt

  • U9 & U11 House League (Development) will be given Thunder shirts for them to wear for games and to keep at the end of the season

Thunder Ball Hat 

Property of Thunder Shirts - for U11-U19 Competitive

Softball Bats 

  • each team will receive age/size appropriate bats for players to use

Balls 

  • each team will have a bucket of practice balls & Game balls for head coaches to manage

 

Player Provided - Required

Softball Glove

  • be sure to purchase a softball glove - they are different than a baseball glove
  • Softball gloves are larger and longer, to accommodate the larger softball. Average size is 10.5-12" glove size, depending on age & category.
  • Avoid purchasing a glove for your player to grow into. Size correctly for use during current season

Fielder's Mask

  • All U9-U17 Strathmore Thunder Players are required to wear a Fielder's Mask when playing infield, including pitchers. 
  • Fielder's masks significantly reduce risk & severity of injuries

Batting Helmet

  • All players must provide their own batting helmet with dual ear flaps, metal face mask and chin strap. 
  • for a good fit - do the "Shake Test". Wearing the helmet, give your head a good shake. There should be minimal movement to ensure a good fit

Protective Jill/Pelvic Protection

  • also referred to a female jock strap. 

Water Bottle

  • Hydration is Key - each player is responsible for their own water bottle

Baseball Pants, Socks & Belt

  • Thunder Fastpitch will confirm colour and style.
  • House League will need dark pants, not necessarily baseball pants

Softball Bat

  • purchasing a bat is an investment
  • Softball must meet the Softball Canada requirements. Click Here to access the information
  • A great guideline for selecting the right softball bat is to take the bat and put the knob in the middle of your chest, and if you can grab the barrel with your hand, then you have found a good length.
  • All bats must be listed on the current USA Softball (formally ASA) or WBSC (formally ISF) Approved Bat lists ie. has ASA 2000 & 2004 stamps, and comply with the all the standards listed HERE

Batting Gloves

  • gloves can help with grip on a bat
  • they should fit snug. Colour and style are to players preference

Softball Cleats

  • players are welcome to play in running shoes. However rubber cleats can provide stability and security when playing on shale & grass diamonds.
  • metal cleats are not allowed.

Gear Bag

  • when choosing a gear bag, consider space for helmet, glove, water bottle, additional clothing and extra gear (if so chosen - cleats, bat, etc)

  • Spring weather in Strathmore/Calgary can be unpredictable. Long Sleeves, rain coat, extra layers is usually a good idea.
